About Me

I was born in Virginia and raised in Cleveland, Ohio.  I came out to Utah to attend BYU, where I got my degree in Mathematics Education.  And since I married a Provo native ten years ago, I've stayed here in Utah Valley ever since!

My love for photography started when my brother gave me a camera as a graduation gift from high school.  I loved taking pictures of all my freshmen adventures, and the next summer got a job at a one-hour photo booth (back when there was a such a thing).  I saw a lot of pictures come down the chute that year, and that got me really thinking about what makes a good picture . . .  and what makes a great picture.

Once my children started coming, I started taking more and more pictures.  I've taken a couple of photography classes, and spent hours researching online to learn all that I could.  I just love documenting their lives as much as I can!  But I have always been frustrated when I wanted family pictures taken.  I knew enough about photography that I wanted good pictures taken, but I didn't have the budget to pay for them.  This business is all about being the photographer that I wish I could hire!

My main specialty is family photography.  I always start off with the "posed" shot of everyone looking at the camera and smiling, because we all need a picture to hang over the mantle.  But my goal for the rest of the shoot is to capture your kids having fun!  Kids rarely give you their best smiles when you told them exactly where to stand and forced them to stay still.  In my family, that gives me pictures like this:

"Show me the owl you just sewed!"

But what I really want is pictures like this:

THAT is my daughter.  A little pink in the face from running around, her hair big and crazy, and grinning because I was chasing her. My mission is to capture those real smiles by having fun with you kids.  We'll throw snowballs, we'll play on the swings, and we'll throw rocks in the pond so they relax and start those giggles.

I also LOVE "cake smash" photo shoots for a first birthday.  Nothing beats watching an adorable little one cover themselves in an adorable cake!

Another area of my life is that I love is special needs children.  My son is on the Autism spectrum, and while that means that sometimes it is challenging to get him to look at the camera and smile at the same time, we're also pretty sure it makes him the most awesome kid ever.

So if your child has special challenges, or doesn't just look at the camera and grin on cue, trust me.  I've been there, and with patience and a few games we can get everyone comfortable and happy in front of the camera.  (Even your husband - mine's the biggest offender in our family some days!)

In the rest of my life, I am a sewing addict, and I love to tutor students in math whenever I get the chance.  But I spend most of my time playing with my three little ones!

What I'm not:

I am not a "trendy" photographer.  So if you love sunbursts and tunnel vision, or truckloads of props, I'm not your gal!  I think all of those distract from the people in your picture, but I know lots of photographers love to use those effects.

Photography is an art.  And just like painters, there are a lot of different styles out there.  You wouldn't hire Picasso and ask him to paint just like Monet!  Take some time to look through the pictures you see on this site to see if you like my style.

I'm also not a wedding photographer or senior photographer for your teenagers.  I just love little ones!
